  • [es-pree de less-ka/-iay] (idiom) A witty remark that occurs to you too late, literally on the way down the stairs. The Oxford Dictionary of Quotations defines esprit de l'escalier as, "An untranslatable phrase, the meaning of which is that one only thinks on one's way downstairs of the smart retort one might have made in the drawing room."

Happy Birthday, Frank!!! I can't believe he's two... it seems like just yesterday, he was a little puff ball.

I'm with Jennifer. It seems like yesterday, but then when I think about it, he's had many escapades for a one-year old.

I miss Mr. Frank in so many ways. I keep a framed picture of him up and continually have to explain to people that no, he's not my pet, but he's just THAT cool. Yes, it's perhaps weird.

He is a good little soul and I'm glad he's helping you find your inner crazy cat lady :)

For the record, I still feel bad about accidently kicking him clear across the room. Remember we used to think about keeping him in a hamster ball? He was just too tiny. Too.tiny.
